Personal Skills

British Canoeing personal performance awards

The Personal Performance Awards are designed for paddlers wanting to gain recognition of their learning and development, in the craft and environment they choose.

The awards allow paddlers to improve their skills, working towards the award of their choice, developing their decision making and fundamental skills

  • All of the awards are direct entry. Paddlers can choose which award they would like to work towards, developing their skills and decision making.
  • The awards provide appropriate milestones and acknowledgement of personal skills, setting up the paddler appropriately for British Canoeing Coaching and Leadership qualifications.
  • There are no age restrictions for any of the awards.
  • All of the awards have the paddler at the heart of the course and encourage self-directed learning, empowerment and ownership.

How will I be assessed?

Gone are the days of clipboards and having to perform isolated skills. Across the two days we will paddle in real environments and support you to be the best paddler you can be. There is no ‘right’ way of doing it, instead we will work together to discover the most efficient and effective way of manoeuvring your chosen craft. If you would like to gain the award there is a set of criteria you must display and this can be found here. In essence these awards endorses your skill, judgment and decision making when journeying so as long as you can do these things in your chosen craft in the appropriate environment then this should be possible

The courses typically take place over 2 days however, this may be extended if you feel it is necessary
